sanatoriums were percifically used for people with illnesses like TB to help them recover, of course before they began to use antibiotics to help the rate of survival was much lower.

Wales, especially North Wales was one of the places children were evacuated too, in fact my mother-in-law was evacuated to somewhere in Wales as a child.

The hospital named in the letter from Thomas is now famous for it's heart surgery but back in the 1940's it was one of the main places used for patients with TB.
