Summary: Set some time during series one, a pilot on a plane seems to have gone suddenly mad ...

A/N The events of this series take place during a time frame of one day, starting in the early hours of the morning.
Jack had been half listening to the police band while trying to get some rest when something piqued his attention, a plane heading into Cardiff airport was apparently out of control. No one could be raised over the airwaves and it was coming in much too fast.
All the emergency services were headed there and the surrounding area was being evacuated in case the plane missed the runway, or airport completely and crashed into the surrounding houses. The thing that had caught Jack's attention was the last transmission by the pilot before the lines of communication went dead.
He had started getting hysterical, saying there was something outside the plane. His co pilot was yelling at him, telling him there was nothing there, that he was imagining it but the pilot insisted there was something there, trying to get into the plane.
As the co pilot called for one of the air stewards to help him, obviously thinking his pilot was losing his mind and needed restraining there was a loud bang and them just static over their communications devices.
Jack knew this wasn't something as simple as the pilot seemingly going suddenly mad, something alien was responsible for this. Jack knew the other four team members wouldn't be happy at being called out of their beds, or anyone else's for that matter before 4am in the morning, but they would come without question as their jobs demanded.
All four of them were there within fifteen minutes, all looking more than a little bleary eyed as they sat around the conference table waiting for Jack to brief them on why they were there. As they sat sipping the hot, strong coffee Ianto had prepared upon arriving they began to feel human again.
Jack filled them in with what he knew, by this point the plane had crashed missing the runway but still within the confines of the airport and most importantly not killing anyone that had been on the ground. The fire, police and ambulance services were all in attendance as the fire fighters fought to get the fire under control.
“So, you believe an alien was responsible for this?” Asked Owen.
“Why would an alien want to make a plane crash?” Added Gwen.
“Yeah, why would a competent pilot suddenly start acting in such a way if it wasn't caused by something he was seeing outside the plane, and as for why? Who knows what it was thinking, maybe it just wanted to get into the plane and didn't realise what it did, whatever that was would cause the tragedy to happen.”
“How come the co pilot couldn't see it?” Toshiko queried.
“Again, no idea. Maybe it was not a physical being and it formed some kind of psychic connection with just him.”
“Sounds feasible.” Ianto injected as he stood up from the table and collected the empty coffee mugs.
“Okay, Ianto stay here and keep an eye on the police reports, I need to know anything they find as soon as they do.”
“Sir.” He nodded and left the room to get rid of the mugs.
“We.” Jack indicated the other three. “Go in prepared for anything, once they deem it safe to inspect the plane we are first on the scene. If this was caused by alien intervention we have to make sure it didn't survive, or if it did that we contain it by any means possible.”
They left the room, each of them arming themselves and collecting together any equipment not already in the SUV that they might need. Heading towards the cog door Ianto was waiting with Jack's coat, holding it for him so he could easily slip his arms into it.
Once gone Ianto tuned into the police band, turning the volume up so he could hear it as he went about the hub cleaning up the mess from the evening before and wishing he wasn't stuck there. But he knew they needed someone to stay behind and monitor it and the others were all needed more at the moment.
