I work with a woman i went to school with and have known since i was 5. Recently her daughter has been having medical problems, i knew which area of her body was affected but not the exact details as her mum was too upset to say - i also work with her daughter - and when she told me today what it was i couldn't believe it.

She is only 27 and has been diagnosed with cervical cancer. This is just awful, she is going to have to have a hysterectomy at such a young age. She is still having tests to make sure it hasn't gone to her lymph nodes. I feel so bad for her, she is engaged and all she wanted more than anything was to have kids. Hopefully they will be able to harvest some of her eggs for a later date.

So, ladies, make sure have your smear tests and if anything is wrong even if they come back clear - she had hers regularly but it was missed as it is so high in the cervix but she kept bleeding for no reason and she wouldn't let them pass her off with "it's normal to have irregular bleeding some times" and pushed for answers - look after yourselves.

They seem to have caught it early thankfully.

I'm really glad to hear that they think they caught it early enough. So sad that she has it at all :((( We had a family friend, also very young who ended up dying of cervical cancer. She left behind three kids and a husband. The oldest was just turning 16 (she'd gotten pregnant at a very young age) and her youngest was 3 or 4 I think.

I so very sorry to hear that, I understand what you are going through as my aunt was diagnoised with advanced cervical cancer 3 days before Christmas 2011 - she is fighting it with all of her strength and we go on Wednesday (13th of June) to see what the next step is (they needed to tumor to shrink before they could do a hysterectomy) if it has shrunk enough then they will do a hysterectomy asap. My aunt had no symptoms as such it was a massive build up of fluid in her abdomen (she looked 9 mths pregnant)that alerted them to the problem, that's why they call it the silent killer. My aunt is in her 60's tho and gone through the menopause. The tumor has shrunk tho it's doing it slower than they like ideally so hopefully as your friend's daughter has caught it early she stands a very good chance  hopefully she can surrond herself with very positive people as I truly believe that helps - my aunt has been amazing all through her Chemo and been very positive and is planning to visit her son in New Zealand for Christmas (we're in the uk)

Tell your friend and her daughter I wish them well and will keep my fingers crossed for a good outcome for her - take care :bighugs: Lorraine (sedeka)

p.s I love reading your torchwood stories ;-)
