It's a dogs life ... :(
Oct. 15th, 2012 04:57 pm I'd like you to meet Pumpkin and hear his sad story.

He is approx. one year old. He was found by the dog warden tied to a post in the middle of nowhere. They were going to put him to sleep as he was so emaciated from starvation that his skin was taunt across he bones and he had suffered complete muscle wastage. He also has a skin condition that he is currently being treated for thanks to a local pet rescue charity called Tag Rescue.
We want to adopt him and give him a good home but he is not ready for this yet, although they do want to re-home him in a household with another dog and we hope that Sniff will accept him. But first he has to learn to trust people and other dogs as he has no social skills at all, is very timid and uses a ball as a comfort 'blanket'. Pumpkin had no idea what a toy was when Tag first acquired him and no idea how to behave around people. The vet believes he spent the first year of his life in a crate.
Sniff and he met today, along with another dog but Pumpkin kept himself to himself. They are meeting again on Wednesday to try and get them used to each other a bit at a time. Hubby said that they believe he is a Staffie/Boxer cross. He is a little bigger than sniff and his nose is shorter ... and he has big ears :)
Tag is the same place we got Sniff from and hubby said that the woman who had Pumpkin - she is looking after him as opposed to putting him in the kennels - couldn't believe that Sniff was the same dog that when we took him was scared of his own shadow and now holds his tail high and wagging and had gained his confidence.
So, fingers crossed we will be able to give Pumpkin the home he deserves, even if it takes a while.

PS The tag woman warned us that Staffies are being targeted by the public locally, if they see one off a lead they are calling the police and saying they are dangerous dogs out of control and the police are taking them away when there is no evidence. This is just ... words escape me!!

Date: 2012-10-15 04:25 pm (UTC)In Denmark it is illegal to walk your dog without a leash, no matter the breed, if the police catches you there's a big fine, I'm good with that :)
